Opinion: This is Ireland – If the tricolour offends you then politely get the first plane out of here and don’t come back

After the controversy generated by the inane Fingal County Councillor, Matt Waine, opposing the flying of the TriColour as it may offend foreign nationals living in the country its time to discuss certain values that innately Irish and should be defended against attacks from the politically correct lunatics.

Foreign nationals who have been welcomed to Ireland with open arms have no more a right to fain offence at the flag of Ireland, than Irish people who have emigrated to U.S or Australia have a right to complain about being offended by the flags of those countries.

Ireland has been supremely altruistic in the way it has welcomed so many foreign nationals and has done more to accommodate them that most other countries have and perhaps done more than it really needed to do.

Waine and his ilk may be just an annoyance at the moment but this bizarre self-loathing like mentality is becoming more and more prevalent. Political Correctness, which is essentially a form of thought control is becoming ever more pervasive in Irish society and “diversity” and liberalism is almost a religious dogma.

The danger is these PC police, who are the minority, will get so loud and simply bullying the silent majority into going along with there twisted agenda to take away everything that we as Irish people hold dear.

There is hope however, the mass revulsion expressed by the public at Waine’s idiotic attack on the tricolour show that the general mood of the people is that if you are offended by the flag of this country you should feel free to leave.
