O’Sullivan: “I will continue with my plans to reform the Junior Cert”

The Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan has confirmed that she will continue with current plans to reform the Junior Cert.

Ms O’Sullivan made her announcement after the ASTI have announced that they have called off a third strike over the reform. Ms O’Sullivan has claimed that members of the ASTI will not come to an agreement over the proposed changes which include teachers marking their own students’ exam papers.

The news comes as there was a meeting held regarding the issue  yesterday afternoon, it is understood that full details of the new Junior Cert were unveiled during that meeting. Although the Education Minister said she hopes the unions will start discussing the issue with the department very soon.
