The Irish Water debacle is quickly descending into farcical territory, as it has been revealed today that the company will spend nearly €110,000 in printing and posting bills to households that are not on the public water system, thus not Irish Water customers.

A spokesperson for the utility said that the company has ‘no option’ other than issuing bills to nearly 150,000 households outside the water network, for the simple reason that they have not registered as ‘non-customers’.

The cost of paper, printing, and postage per bill is approximately €0.75, which means the total cost of sending out bills to 1.65m households will be in the region of €1.2m.

The first bills will begin landing in our letterboxes next month.
