Out on his ear – ‘No severance pay’ for former top-earner Ryan Tubridy, RTE confirms

The former Late Late Show presenter is expected to look for work outside of RTÉ as the broadcaster will not renew his contract, reports Independent.

However, there is still scope for legal action by Tubridy over the ongoing confusion over his contractual status.

It is unclear what the position is on the €150,000 deal with Renault.

Tubridy had a five-year contract until 2025, but it covered both TV work as host of The Late Late Show and presenter of his morning radio show, reports Independent.

When he stopped presenting the flagship chat show, his contract was ready to be negotiated.

RTÉ says it will have to enter into talks with Tubridy about ending his employment, but does not accept that he is entitled to any severance pay.

“Now that RTÉ contract negotiations with Ryan Tubridy have concluded, as confirmed yesterday by RTÉ director general Kevin Bakhurst, payments to Ryan Tubridy will conclude in due course. There will be no severance payment,” RTÉ told the Irish Independent.

Although RTÉ has left the door open for him to return in the future, he is now believed to be looking for work elsewhere.

RTÉ continues to insist that Tubrida’s statement “breaches trust between the two parties” and that the clarification sought has not been addressed to the satisfaction of RTÉ.

“RTÉ wrote to Mr Tubridy’s representatives on Wednesday seeking clarification on the statement issued by Ryan Tubridy earlier that day. RTÉ also sought clarification on two matters. These matters were not addressed to RTÉ’s satisfaction. Regardless of the intent, Mr Tubridy’s statement and the timing and manner of its publication damaged trust between both parties and that, along with a range of other issues outlined by Kevin Bakhurst resulted in the conclusion of the negotiations.” RTÉ said, reports Independent.
