There’s been absolute outrage on social media over a baby being aborted due to a completely wrong diagnosis of a fatal foetal issue.
Prior to last year’s referendum on the Eighth Amendment, Pro Life advocates warned that this would happen but pro choice people claimed it could never happen but as we can see, they were very wrong.
An external review has been commissioned by the National Maternity Hospital in Holles Street into the circumstance surrounding an abortion of an unborn baby that was misdiagnosed as having a “fatal, foetal abnormality”.
RTE reports that it had learned of the review after a complaint was lodged by the parents of the aborted baby who discovered to their horror that their unborn child was, in fact, fully healthy following a post abortion test result.
The review of the administration and interpretation of the test which incorrectly found the unborn child had a “fatal foetal abnormality” will be conducted by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Britain.
The baby was aborted in March, at 15 weeks gestation, following a series of three key genetic tests however, the third test, a high-level cell culture which looks at chromosomes was sent abroad for analysis.
The results, which determined the baby did not have the genetic disorder ‘Trisomy18’ only came back after the baby had been aborted under the advice of doctors.
The National Maternity Hospital and the Minister for Health have been informed about concerns expressed by the parents of the aborted child surrounding the events before and after the termination of their child’s life.
Bowing to demands from the bereaved parents the National Maternity Hospital has set up an external review.
The Department of Health “acknowledged” the distress that the parents have experienced as a result of the misdiagnosis and subsequent termination of their child’s life.
