Outrageous: Mother of six released from Mountjoy prison after refusing to pay €2,000 home schooling fine

lesson

Carlow mother of six, Monica O’Connor and her husband Eddie O’Neill were taken from their home this morning at 7:20am. They were found guilty of not registering two children for home schooling.

Children who are being home schooled are meant to be registered with the Education Welfare Board for home schooling to be approved and it’s an offence not to complete the registration. The children were present in the house as the Gardai took their parents into custody.

After being reprimanded for several hours, the couple have been temporarily released. Mr O’Neill who is a maths teacher is likely to be arrested if he doesn’t pay the fine for the couples children.

This ludicrous law will be enforced on the couple who have fostered 22 children over the past 12 years. The government would be using the time better if they chased real criminals.
