Over 40 patients were waiting for beds at Limerick hospital late on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, hospitals in Ireland had over 140 people waiting on trolleys, reports Breaking News.

Of those patients, 45 were in wards elsewhere, while 99 were waiting in emergency rooms, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

At forty-three, University Hospital Limerick had the most patients on the waiting list, reports Breaking News.

Nine patients were waiting on beds at Sligo University Hospital and St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin, which came next.

It comes as the HSE issued a warning that during the next ten days of the holiday season, hospital admissions for flu patients are predicted to treble.

Up to 900 flu cases might occur in hospitals nationwide before the end of the year, with instances predicted to peak in early January, HSE chief clinical director Dr. Colm Henry said, reports Breaking News.
