The HSE have confirmed that a total of 434 women will have to undergo a repeat smear test after samples expired.
In a statement the HSE confirmed that all women affected have been informed and have been advised to undergo a repeat smear test.
It is believed that the samples may have expired due to the fact that they were not transferred to laboratories in time and because of the recent change in laboratory provider due to the recent backlog.
The HSE say all those who were affected were informed on July 4th, and the expired tests took place in a period leading up to July 1st this year.
