British authorities have warned that temperatures could reach close to 40c today, making the day the hottest ever recorded in the UK.
The previous temperature record is 38.5C, registered in August of 2003.
A mass of hot air drifting from the Sahara is the culprit for the current heatwave.
The Met Office has issued warnings for people to be careful in the extraordinary heat and have advised people to stay out of the sun at peak times.
