Over 70 Leaving Certificate students have results withheld amid cheating fears

The State Examinations Board has confirmed that a total of 71 students have not received their Leaving Certificate results amid fears of cheating.

According to RTÉ News, the board confirmed that of the 71 cases 51 students have had their results permanently withheld.

It is understood that the Board has the right to withhold results if they are considered to be in breach of guidelines.

The board revealed that the remaining 20 cases have not been permanently withheld, but they are currently subject to review and a decision will be made following interviews with the respective students and their schools.

Although the decision can be appealed, students could potentially face the prospect of being unable to sit a state examination for a significant period of time of they are found guilty of cheating.
