Overcrowding crisis at Beaumont Hospital worsens overnight, with staff calling on the HSE to take the hospital off call or risk meltdown

The current overcrowding crisis at one of the country’s largest hospitals, the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, has seemingly worsened overnight with staff at the hospital calling on the HSE to take it off call.

According to the INMO the situation has progressively gotten worse in recent days with the hospitals emergency department being full beyond capacity. The INMO say the crisis has made working conditions impossible which in turn has made it unsafe to treat further patients, it is believed that there is currently 75 patients on trolleys this morning with 33 of whom waiting on a bed.

The deepening crisis has prompted the INMO’s industrial relations officer, Lorraine Monaghan to call on the HSE to allow staff bring the situation under control. Ms Monaghan said: “The hospital is in crisis since Monday yet the appropriate actions have not been taken to address the severe overcrowding levels.” “It is imperative that the hospital goes off call immediately and remains off call until such time that the situation is brought under control.”
