Paddy Last: Local authorities given emergency powers to acquire more properties not for the Irish, only for refugees

There are fears that emergency powers granted to all local authorities across the country will squeeze even more Irish people out of the property market.

The country has faced a housing crisis for several years now with thousands homeless and tens of thousands more unable to get on the property ladder and buy home or a start a family.

During all this time the government did consider taking such drastic action as it is taking now, but it is taking this action to home Ukrainian refugees rather than Irish citizens.

The government are renewing a push to acquire vacant homes.

The new measures by the government will see Irish people languishing on the housing list pushed further back in the queue but will also have a massive impact on those looking to purchase homes privately as the housing shortage is about be exponentially exacerbated.

Reacting to the new measures Irish Freedom Party leader Herman Kelly stated that we needed a national policy of ‘Ireland First Not Paddy Last’.
