Pandemic chaos leads to huge delays at the Passport Office while Simon Coveney says new technology will be put in place “over the next couple of years”

While the lifting of restrictions might mean that people can start planning holidays again, they’d better have their passport in order or they might be going nowhere.

According to RTE, chaos at the Passport Office means that there are tens of thousands of first-time applications for children waiting on the books, with anxious holiday makers contacting their local TD for help as they have no choice but to sit and wait to see if they’ll have to cancel their long-awaited holiday.

The Irish Travel Agents Association has called for “walk-in” Passport Services to ease the problem and help get things back on track after the Government’s pandemic restrictions all but destroyed the public’s hopes for a holiday abroad during the last two bleak years.

Simon Coveney said that new technology was going to be put in place “over the next couple of years”.
