The largest storm of the season caused severe damage to a large portion of California’s Interstate-80 highway, and a blizzard tore through the Sierra Nevada mountains overnight, leaving tens of thousands of people without power due to strong winds and heavy rain, reports Breaking News.

In some places, up to 10 feet of snowfall is predicted.

100 miles of I-80 were closed by California officials on Friday due to “spin outs, high winds, and low visibility,” reports Breaking News.

When the main route from the California-Nevada border just west of Reno to the vicinity of Emigrant Gap, California, would reopen was unknown to them.

The most severe snow is expected to arrive early on Saturday, according to the US National Weather Service in Reno. Blizzard conditions could cause visibility to drop to a quarter mile, reports Breaking News.
