The incident happened in Birr, Co. Offaly, at around 5pm yesterday afternoon.
A female pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was knocked down by a truck as she attempted to cross the main Birr to Tullamore road, close to Loughnane’s Topaz Garage on the N52.
She received first aid from a passerby and then rushed to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore. She was then transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where she remains in a critical condition today.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward.
