Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda has warned residents in the northeast not to visit unless there is an emergency, reports The Mirror.
The warning was given by the hospital management yesterday after an increase in patients all week.
Ten ambulances were waiting to admit patients outside for hours at a time during the middle of the week.
Due to high demand, the hospital stated that only the sickest patients are given priority when it comes to treatment and beds, reports The Mirror.
It said: “It has been extremely busy over the past couple of days with a high number of patient presentations. As a result we are encouraging the public to attend the Emergency Department for emergencies only,” reports The Mirror.
The Minor Injuries Unit at the Louth County Hospital in Dundalk is open everyday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., the hospital said. Patients should also get in touch with their general practitioner or GP Out of Hours Services.
The majority of Dundalk patients receive treatment, evaluation, and seeing in less than an hour.
The primary medical facility for Louth, Meath, Monaghan, and portions of Cavan is the Lourdes Hospital, reports The Mirror.
