After several objections, immigrant families and women will now be housed on the premises of a disused hotel in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, reports Breaking News.

Fifty international protection candidates were to be housed at the former JJ Gannon’s Hotel on Ballinrobe’s Main Street.

The proposals called for housing fifty adult male asylum applicants in twelve rooms, reports Breaking News.

But now, a change in the building’s intended use has been confirmed by the Department of Integration.

“The Department’s contract for accommodation in Ballinrobe to provide temporary shelter to International Protection applicants in JJ Gannon’s Hotel is proceeding. It is intended that up to 50 people in need of shelter will be accommodated at the premises,” reports Breaking News.
