Gardai have reported that around 20,000 pro-life campaigners have descended on the streets of Dublin this afternoon to hold a protest rally against the possibility of abortion being legaised in Ireland.

The group say the protest is being held because they are deeply concerned that the Irish government are considering plans to put forward a new legislation that would see abortion bring legal here. It is understood that 20,000 people have gathered to hear people who have disabilities give their views on the controversial issue.

One of the people behind the rally Niamh Ui Bhriain a Rally for Life Committee member, has said: “I think people are very passionate about this cause and I think people are very concerned about the move towards legalising abortion in Ireland, especially in regard to unborn children with disabilities “So today it’s a rally, we’re going to see people with disabilities speaking on the stage, families with disabilities speaking on the stage, and really their message is that every life matters, and we shouldn’t legalise abortion for children who have disabilities.”
