Plague outbreak sparks panic in flight arriving at Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar after two passengers die from the disease

A flight arriving at the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar had to be immediately quarantined after two passengers were confirmed to be infected with Bubonic Plague. Both passengers, a married couple from rural Mongolia, subsequently died from the disease.

Health officials were able to ascertain that the deceased had been infected with the deadly Yersinia Pestis bacteria after eating marmot meat in their local village.

The rest of the passengers and crew were put under strict medical supervision after the plane landed, with as many as eleven people sent straight to hospital as a precaution.

Bubonic Plague is largely believed to be the cause of the Black Death epidemic that ravaged the world throughout the 14th century. The disease exacted a death toll of around 50m people back then.
