In the last number of days, two gentlmen in Cork tragically died while sleeping rough. They were found when passers by noticed them, one man was sleeping outside the Cork bus station trying to get some shelter from the wind and rain that Storm Hannah brought.

It really is extraordinary. 10,000 of our own people are perishing in the freezing cold on the streets around the country with an average of 100 people sleeping rough in Dublin’s city centre every night of the year.

The government is set to invite over 820 migrants into Ireland before the end of 2019.

Figures released by the Department of Justice have revealed that there are currently over 350 asylum seekers and refugees being accommodated at Emergency Reception and Orientation Centres.

There are currently 358 asylum seekers and refugees being housed at centres in counties Kildare, Waterford and Roscommon.

Meanwhile it is expected that a further 600 refugees will be selected from areas including Lebanon and Jordan by the end of 2019.

The relocation of asylum seekers comes as part of the the Government’s agreement to accept 4,000 refugees under an agreement that was made with the EU back in 2015.

Latest figures also show that Ireland has already taken in 2,152 asylum seekers and refugees to date, with 1,832 of those being housed in communities across the country.
