A Dutch police chief called for an end to the “paedophile hunters” after a 73-year-old retired teacher was beaten to death by teenagers after they lured him into a meeting.
Police chief Oscar Dros said there is a real risk that more people will die and asked that the judiciary be left to the authorities.
The man from the eastern city of Arnhem was attracted to sexual contact with a minor in a gay chat room. He was then beaten to death by a number of teenagers.
Authorities say that they knew the boy was a minor, however, they say that there was no evidence of prior sexual contact with minors by the man.
The attack in Arnhem is the latest in a series of 250 incidents involving so-called “paedophile hunters” in the Netherlands with authorities calling for these so-called “hunters” to stop.
