The mother of a 9-year-old boy in the UK has revealed how police were alerted by her son’s school when they discovered that he was selling air-fresheners to his frineds.

According to the Daily Mail, Alicia McHale said that she was shocked and upset when police called to her home to say that they wanted to speak to her.  It turned out that her son Donnan had been seen by one of his teachers, selling air-fresheners for a profit outside his local Tesco store.

It turned out that the teacher had contacted the police, who said they were obliged to check with Donnan’s parents.  She told them that Donnan has been buying the air-fresheners at a pound shop and then selling them on outside the Tesco.  He had apparently been very successful at it too.

While the police were fine about it, and quite impressed by Donnan’s work ethic, they were obliged to ask social services to call to Ms. McHale and she was very upset by this.  She said:

“I was shocked.  I’ve never had police at my door.  We’re really proud of Donnan – they should be praising him for doing something like this when we’ve got children causing havoc on the streets.”

She also said that she was very sure that Donnan was safe as the staff at Tesco were happy to keep an eye on him and they had her number in case there was any issue.
