Police in Belfast have arrested two teenagers after they threatened a taxi driver with a machete in an attempt to hijack his vehicle.
The PSNI say that the victim was confronted in The Cutts area of Dunmurry within the city after picking up a fare at about 4.45am on Sunday morning. It is believed that the driver was threatened and an attempt was made to force him out of the car at knifepoint.
Officers say that a machete was recovered at the scene and that a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were arrested a short time later.
Meanwhile Inspector Jim McGrillen made a brief statement regarding the incident in which he said: “The machete has been recovered by police and has been seized for examination,”. He also said that the two teenagers in question are being detained on suspicion of attempted hijacking.
