Police shut down illegal 12-hour-long rave in France which had 2,500 attendees for New Year

At least 2,500 people attended an illegal rave in France that went on for some 12 hours before clashing with police who tried to stop the event.

The rave, which took place in an abandoned warehouse in Lieuron near Rennes in Brittany, started on New Year’s Eve and ended on Saturday morning.

Mass gatherings are currently not allowed under French COVID-19 restrictions and there is a national curfew from 8:00pm to 6:00am.

Police said they tried to prevent the rave from happening, but they were severely attacked by many party goers who set one of their cars on fire and threw bottles and stones.

People from France, the United Kingdom, Spain and other countries attended the event, authorities said.
