Preparations for Omagh bombing remembrance ceremony underway

omagh

17 years ago today, 29 people lost their lives in the Omagh bombing. The event marked the single largest atrocity of the Troubles in terms of number of victims.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow in memory of those who perished that day, and the 220 others who were injured in the explosion.

Speaking to the media today, Michael Gallagher, whose son lost his life that day, has said that “We would really feel that it’s a great opportunity for people to come together and show their support for those who have suffered … it would really send a strong message out from Omagh that we’re a community that are together – and will stay together.”
