The US has revoked 1,000 Visas from students and researchers linked to the Chinese military as part of the Trump administration’s crackdown on industrial espionage, Reuters reports.
The government accuses Beijing of employing spies in the US among the 300,000 Chinese nationals enrolled at American universities. In May Donald Trump signed new legislation restricting the access of Visas to students with potential military connections in order to protect American technology intelligence and intellectual property from theft.
On Wednesday dozens of Chinese students enrolled at US universities reported receiving emails informing them that their Visa had been revoked. The administration said the US would continue to welcome ‘legitimate students and scholars’ from China who aren’t working to support Beijing’s ‘goals of military dominance’.
