A Mexican crime reporter who was beheaded and tortured has become the latest murder victim in the world’s most dangerous country for journalists.
According to Reuters, Julio Valdivia (44) was based in the violent state of Veracruz and specialised in ‘nota roja’ journalism, covering sensationalist murders and crime. Sadly, he has become the latest headline when his decapitated corpse was found 100km outside the state capital. One of his colleagues at the Diario El Mundo confirmed that the reporter has been tortured and beheaded.
Last year half of all murdered journalists in the world were killed in Mexico, and Valdivia’s is the fourth this year.
