Prince Andrew’s legal team has failed to get the sexual assault lawsuit against him thrown out of Court.
According to the Metro, Virginia Giuffre has brought a case against the prince, claiming that she was forced to have sex with him when she was 17 and the victim of a sex trafficking ring run by the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his long-term friend Ghislaine Maxwell. The prince’s legal team tried to convince the Court that the settlement agreement that she signed in 2009 meant that the case could not go ahead.
The settlement, which was made with Epstein, was said to include a provision that said that Ms. Giuffre would not bring any further case against any other “potential defendants”. It was claimed that this meant that she could not bring a case against Prince Andrew.
The Court refused to accept this application and it could now be the case that Prince Andrew will have to give evidence in a future Court case. He may alternatively decline to take part. There is also the possibility that he could settle the case before it comes to trial.
The Prince has continually denied all allegations made against him and insisted that he did not remember meeting his accuser.
In 2019 Jeffrey Epstein killed himself while he was in custody in Manhattan, New York. Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted of sex trafficking and conspiracy charges in New York and she awaits sentencing.
