A group of up fifty protestors briefly blocked traffic on O’Connell Bridge in Dublin just as rush hour got underway this evening.
They then moved up and blocked northbound traffic on O’Connell Street outside the GPO.
The impromptu protest was held in response to the jailing of five water protesters earlier. Three people were jailed today for 28 days and two others for 56 days for contempt of  court.
People cheered loudly and chanted “no way we won’t pay” amongst as the demonstrators were led away.
Anti-austerity alliance TD Paul Murphy has described the sentences as “shocking”.
Traffic in the north area of Dublin is reportedly heavy, and delays are expected for some time.
