Public health warning as Bounce Energy Balls recalled amid Meningitis causing bacteria fears

The Food Safety Authority have confirmed that Bounce Energy Balls which are sold in health food shops and gyms across the country have been recalled because of safety fears as experts believe may contain meningitis-causing bacteria.

According to the Food Standards Authority (FSA) two flavours of the balls – “Cashew & Pecan Vitality Lift” and “Apple & Cinnamon Protein Punch” may be infected with bacteria that can cause an illness called listeria when eaten.

It is believed eating the contaminated can lead to people experiencing flu like symptoms including high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications such as meningitis.

Food Authorities say the bacteria comes from sunflower kernals which are listed as an ingredient in the energy balls. Meanwhile Bounce Foods released a statement regarding the recall in which they say: “We care deeply about the health and safety of consumers and as such we have chosen to initiate a voluntary recall of these products in an abundance of caution to protect public health.”
