A transgender prisoner known as “Barbie Kardashian,” who was previously described in court as a “significant threat” to the public, has been released from Limerick Prison after serving time for making violent threats against her mother, reports Breaking News.

Kardashian, who is in her mid-20s, will now be subject to a two-year post-release supervision order, which had been handed down by Limerick Circuit Court.

Originally born male under the name “Gabriel Alejandro Gentile,” Kardashian legally changed her name by deed poll and now identifies as female. She served two years and six months of a five-and-a-half-year sentence, with the final year suspended.

During her four-day trial in March 2023, a detective garda testified that Gardaí had “grave concerns” about Kardashian’s “motivation to carry out the threats” made toward her mother, reports Breaking News.

Outside the prison today, Kardashian expressed no remorse for the threats and claimed she does not pose a risk to the public. She also said she hopes to undergo gender-affirming surgery.

The court was told that Kardashian has been diagnosed with several personality disorders and has claimed she experienced sexual and physical abuse during childhood. At age 12, she was taken into State care under a High Court Special Care Order, reports Breaking News.

She was found guilty of seven counts of threatening to harm her mother in 2020, while she was a resident at Coovagh House—a secure care unit in Limerick for high-risk young people.

Judge Tom O’Donnell, who has since retired, called it “one of the most complex cases” he had encountered. He said Kardashian remained “unrepentant” about her desire to torture, rape, and kill her mother, and had described methods involving boiling water and a screwdriver, reports Breaking News.

A probation report expressed “major concerns” about her lack of remorse and described her as posing a high risk of committing serious offences again. She was evaluated by five psychiatrists, all of whom warned she was a “real danger” who might act on her violent urges.

Kardashian has a total of 15 previous convictions, all involving violence, including a sexual assault she committed at age 13. Judge O’Donnell said she showed “narcissistic tendencies” and “a high level of venom” towards her mother, while displaying “a complete lack of remorse”, reports Breaking News.

Under her release conditions, Kardashian must reside at an address approved by Gardaí and the probation service, inform them of any changes, and disclose any new personal relationships. If she breaches any of these conditions, she could be returned to prison under a Section 99 order. The judge also specified that any attempt to contact her mother or father could trigger enforcement of this order.

Judge O’Donnell stressed that State authorities must take seriously the “stark warnings” in the probation assessments. While acknowledging Kardashian’s troubled past, he expressed “grave concerns” regarding her release, reports Breaking News.
