The number of people in receipt of Pandemic Unemployment Payment has reached almost 300,000 it has been revealed.
According to latest figures there has been an increase of over 51,000 people seeking to access the payment following the introduction of Level 5 restrictions last week.
The figures show that 295,860 people will look to claim the payment this week compared to 244,153 people just over seven days ago.
It is understood that this week’s payments will cost in the excess of €85m after the payment was restored to the original rate of €350 per week.
