Questions raised after claims “gardai were trying to make Dublin look worse than it was” by emptying drink and throwing cans on the ground

A number of questions have been raised after footage emerged appearing to show gardai take cans off partygoers, emptying them onto the street and then throwing them away onto the street, with many claiming that the gardai were trying to make Dublin’s mayhem look worse than it actually was.

Some people say that gardai took a very hard hand, particularly on Saturday night, when they cordoned off Dawson St, armed with batons, riot gear and ready to attack all comers who got out of line.

Even the government’s own Eamon Ryan appears to be denouncing the gardai claiming that a “new approach” is needed and that he doesn’t want to see baton charges and shields on the streets of Dublin.

Some have gone further and questioned the motives behind the gardai, whether they were even justified when they stormed St Stephen’s Green, South William Street, and Temple Bar.

Watch the footage below and tell us, was the garda emptying the drink and throwing the cans onto the street?
