The highest possible weather alert, a status red weather warning is threatening the safety of the majority of the country.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said people need to take extra care tomorrow in particular as Met Eireann have announced the beast from the east will combine with 100klm winds from storm Emma.

People are advised to stay off the roads and not venture outdoors at all. Freezing cold blizzards are expected from the South of the country right up to North of the country starting from 4pm tomorrow, Thursday.

The message is clear from there – from 4pm Thursday until at least midday on Friday, people must stay inside and no go out under any circumstances. Snow blizzards could cause snow blindness and disorientation and emergency services will put to the pin of their collar because they will be working on a skeleton staff.
