There were 150 cases of repossession due to be heard up in the Taoiseach’s home town today. Now that property prices are one the rise again, the banks are launching and all out strike against hard pressed citizens, trying to take their last slice of dignity via a legal team.

The proceedings had to be halted twice, however, as activists for the National Land League of Ireland and Integrity Ireland (NLLI) staged protests in and around the courtroom.

The NLLI offers support for people facing eviction, and today they pointed out that repossession proceedings are “not only morally wrong but also lawfully wrong”.

Registrar Fintan Murphy ordered proceedings to be halted during the morning session after a group of protesters raised their voice in opposition to the banks’ actions inside the courtroom itself.

Court business was then moved to a different room, where proceedings were held in front of a camera. There, protesters called for a “blanket adjournment”.

A second batch of cases were due to be heard after lunchtime, but these hearings were once again disrupted. Gardai actually removed two men from the premises. It is understood these men were let off with a warning.

There were calls on the Taoiseach and the Government as a whole to intervene on repossession cases.
