RIP: Terry Wogan passes away aged 77

Sad news this morning, as well-known Irish broadcaster Terry Wogan has died at the age of 77, after a short battle with cancer.

A statement released by his family said “Sir Terry Wogan died today after a short but brave battle with cancer.
“He passed away surrounded by his family. While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”

Terry Wogan was born in Limerick, but moved to Dublin while in his teens. He started his career back in the 1960s presenting documentaries for RTE.

He began work on the BBC in 1967, and presented Children in Need every year from 1980. Wogan was knighted in 2005.

He is survived by his wife Helen and three children, Alan, Mark, and Katherine.
