RTE has said that it expects to lose in the region of 35% in revenue this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking before an Oireachtas committee, Director General Dee Forbes said the national broadcaster will continue to lose revenue due to a fall in TV licence fees and advertising revenues.

Although Forbes admitted that the pandemic has hit the entire media sector in recent months she expects that the State broadcaster will lose between 25% to 35% in the coming months.

It is thought that the broadcaster has experienced a higher loss in profit due to production costs for programming and news coverage.
