RTÉ has announced that it has obtained revised legal advice concerning the disclosure of departure package information, reports RTE.
According to a spokesman, the broadcaster is now thinking about this and is awaiting more legal counsel.
The Taoiseach stated that confidentiality agreements for leave packages were “the norm” at RTÉ, which “is not right” during his afternoon speech in the Dáil.
Leo Varadkar restated his opinion “that there should be a cap” on the amount of public funds used in departure packages, reports RTE.
Although there could be situations in which they are necessary, he reiterated his belief that “confidentiality clauses should be avoided by public bodies”.
“It seems they were the norm rather than the exception in RTÉ, and that’s not right,” he told the Dáil, reports RTE.
Director General Kevin Bakhurst of RTÉ stated on Monday that the broadcaster must “respect the law” when it comes to disclosing departure package information.
