Russian cannibal couple may have killed and consumed up to 30 victims

Russian authorities are investigating the possible crimes committed by a 35-year-old Russian man and his wife, both of whom may have killed and eaten as many as thirty people over the last two decades.

The grisly case unfolded after a mobile phone containing pictures of a man posing beside the remains of a female was found on the street.

The person who found the handset reported it to the police, and this led to the arrest of a couple in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar.

Under interrogation, the man first said that he had found the human remains and taken a picture with them. He later confessed to at least two killings, but police believe there may be as many as thirty victims.

Local authorities are now investigating the extent of the couple’s involvement in unsolved crimes in the area.

Cannibalistic killings are not unheard of in Russia. Renowned killer Aleksey Sukletin murdered and cannibalized at least 7 females in the Tartarstan region during the early 80s, and Alexander Spesivtsev, deemed ‘The Siberian Ripper’ killed and ate at least 4 people during the 1990s.
