Ryan Tubridy says he unreservedly apologizes for not asking questions as to why RTÉ published incorrect earnings figures.

In a statement, Mr Tubridy said he was disappointed that RTÉ had decided his radio show should not air next week for editorial reasons.

However, he said he was looking forward to returning to the show as soon as possible.

This follows yesterday’s disclosure that Mr Tubridy received €345,000 more than his annual published salary over many years.

In a statement, Mr Tubridy said: “RTÉ’s accounting treatment and publication of payments made to me between 2017 and 2022 contained serious errors. While I have no responsibility for the corporate governance in RTÉ or how or what they publish in their accounts, when my earnings were published I should have asked questions at the time and sought answers as to the circumstances which resulted in incorrect figures being published. I didn’t, and I bear responsibility for my failure to do so. For this, I apologise unreservedly,” reports RTE.

In his statement, Mr Tubridy said all his earnings with the broadcaster “have at all times been included in my company’s accounts that were prepared by my accountant and filed with the Companies Registration Office and all my taxes are up to date,” reports RTE.

Mr Tubridy said he would not be presenting his show on RTÉ Radio 1 next week, saying he was “disappointed that RTÉ has decided that for editorial reasons I should not broadcast my radio show next week”, reports RTE.

Earlier today, RTÉ’s board of directors announced that CEO Dee Forbes was fired Wednesday this week.
