Ryanair allegedly stopped family boarding plane as child had 1cm tear in passport

A teenage traveller’s first international vacation was ruined, along with his New Year’s Eve festivities, when Ryanair refused to allow him to travel with his parents due to a passport issue, reports Independent.

The eight-day fantasy trip is in ruins, and the family has lost almost £1,000 in expenses.

On December 28, Jake Barton, 19, was ready to join a low-cost airline flight from East Midlands Airport to Spain, but he was denied entry at the gate, reports Independent.

According to The Sun, Mr. Barton says he tore a 1cm tear in his passport during a night out, which is why his parents say he was unable to fly.

“We had gone through all the checks but right at the very end, Ryanair turned us away. It was absolutely heartbreaking. It would have been one thing if he had been turned away at the first instance, but to get to the gate you start getting into holiday mode and it’s just awful,” said Jake’s mother, Rachael Burton, reports Independent.
