Ryanair may pay staff more for identifying oversized cabin bags that will cost you €75

Ryanair is thinking about raising the commission it pays staff for spotting oversized cabin luggage, reports RTE.

CEO Michael O’Leary has stated that Ryanair workers currently receive about €1.50 for each oversized cabin bag they detect.

Passengers are permitted to bring a small bag on board, provided it does not exceed the dimensions of 40x20x25, reports RTE.

They also have the option to pay for a 10kg bag to go in the overhead locker, or to check in either a 10kg or 20kg bag.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Mr O’Leary said the airline’s aircraft are “struggling” with the volume of luggage passengers bring on board, reports RTE.

“One of the things that irritates our passengers most is people who show up with a rucksack claiming that it fits in the sizer. If it doesn’t fit in the sizer, it’s not getting on. Our passengers will be paying the excess bag fees but more than 99.9% of passengers comply,” Mr O’Leary said, reports RTE.

He added: “The tiny minority who don’t will pay the fees and we are more than happy to incentivise our [staff] with a share of those excess baggage fees which we think will decline over the coming year or two,” reports RTE.
