A sophisticated “phishing” scam originating in Africa is hitting email inboxes all over Ireland.
The scam email looks like an An Post request to pay a small fee to have a package delivered.
The email is multilingual, both in English and Irish and uses the branding of An Post.
When you click on the link, you are diverted to a website that looks legitimate with the domain name anpost-checkout.ml.
This web address is registered in Mali, West Africa.
This address has a padlock to show it is “secure”. YOU SHOULD NOT CLICK ON THE LINK IN THE EMAIL.
If you click on the email, you are then asked for a phone number and email.
After inserting this info, you are then asked for payment details.
THIS IS A FRAUDULENT EMAIL AND SHOULD BE DELETED. If you enter your payment details, contact your bank immediately.
