
People have been advised to be aware of new phishing scam that’s being sent via email and text message.
It’s understood that people are receiving an email or text message appearing to be from the Inland revenue requiring a person to enter their personal details.
In announcement the Inland Revenue say they would never directly text or email a member of the public requesting that they provide their personal details.
It is believed the would be scammers send a text/email containing the following “Dear Taxpayer, your refund is now available”.
The scammers also provide a link to a dud Revenue website which prompts a user to enter their personal details.
The Inland Revenue have warned the public never to provide their details to a third party website and if they receive such a message they should delete it immediately and contact their local Revenue office.
