Scientists discover that e-cigarette smoke causes lung cancer in mice

Scientists studying the effects of e-cigarettes have revealed that a recent study has shown that nicotine from vaping causes lung cancer in mice.

According to a new study published by researchers at New York University, 22.5% of mice got lung cancer after being exposed to the same levels of nicotine smoke that people are exposed to over a three to six year period.

The extensive study which was carried out over 54 weeks also found that of the 40 mice exposed to vaping smoke, 57.5% of them developed precancerous lesions on the bladder.

However the results also discovered that none of the 20 mice exposed to non nicotine smoke developed any form of cancer.

Speaking about the findings to CNBC, lead researcher Moon-Shong Tang said the effects of smoking e-cigarettes are very harmful and if people are long time users they are likely to develop all kind of diseases and some will probably end up with cancer.

However he did added, how carcinogenic e-cigarette use is for humans “may not be known for a decade to come.”
