Senator and Pieta House founder Joan Freeman will contest the next Presidential election after she secured her nomination on Monday evening.
Ms Freeman who will join the race with current President Michael D Higgins and businessman Sean Gallagher was given official backing by four local councils.
Senator Freeman was confirmed as a candidate on Monday evening after she received the backing of Fingal, Cork city and both Galway and Galway City Councils.
The news of Ms Freeman’s nomination comes after former Dragon’s Den star Sean Gallagher recieved the backing of Roscommon, Mayo, Leitrim, Wexford, and Cavan councils.
