Serious questions are now being thrown at the HSE as to just what the real covid-19 numbers are

The HSE provided Dr Tony Holohan with numbers which he read out daily but his replacement now needs to find out from his sources just what are the real figures that the Irish public deserve to know.

Dr Tony Holohan has now stepped away from his role as Chief Medical Officer to tend to his wife who is in palliative care.

The actual death toll from the Covid-19 pandemic in Ireland is “substantially less” than the figures that the government has been feeding to the media for months of March to June the Health Information and Quality Authority has found.

As other experts had already noted the deaths being counted as Covid-19 related were primarily among people who were already in the “end of life” phase due to other underlying illnesses while the average age of people dying from the disease in Ireland was 84.

To put that in perspective the average life expectancy in Ireland is 82.

It is also the case the vast majority of those who died of the virus were elderly, sick and in most cases dying people in hospitals or care homes and some have claimed that actions taken by the government and the HSE in relation to these patients greatly exacerbated this tragedy.

HIQA has found that the officially reported Covid-19 deaths likely overestimates the true burden of excess deaths caused by the virus and this is likely to due to deaths being attributed to Covid-19 that were likely down to other factors.

These finding come as there is an increased media induced fear amongst the public about a potential “second wave” of the Chinese virus breaking out in Ireland.
