The nations second biggest airport Shannon Airport has been officially named Airport of the Year by the European Regions Airline Association.

The Airport which was announced the winner after beating off competition from other airports across Europe at a ceremony in the vintage car museum in Berlin. The win makes it the second year in a row that Shannon has won the prestigious award. It is understood the Airport of the Year Award recognises airports which have had a positive impact on intra-European air transport operations and which recognise the importance of airline-airport partnerships.
It has been reported that Shannon Airport won the award after the judging panel was impressed with the overall operation of the airport which has a 17% increase in passenger numbers over the past year.
