She’s outraged! ‘Derry Girls’ actress Nicola Coughlan raised €120,000 for “trans” people after UK court defines woman as sex at birth

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has helped raise over €120,000 for a transgender rights organization in response to a UK Supreme Court decision defining “woman” in legal terms, reports Breaking News.

The ruling from the UK’s top court stated that in the 2010 Equality Act, the words “woman” and “sex” specifically mean a biological woman and biological sex.

Reacting to the decision on Wednesday, the Irish actress said she felt “completely horrified” and “disgusted,” pledging to match donations up to €11,664 (£10,000) for the trans charity Not A Phase, reports Breaking News.

Since then, the campaign has gathered €120,511 (£103,018), with a new target of €128,305 (£110,000).

On Friday, the 38-year-old actress from Derry Girls and Barbie, who has been a longtime ally of the LGBT+ community, promoted the donation link on her Instagram story, writing: “Nearly 100k thanks to you kind and brilliant people so delighted for Not A Phase”, reports Breaking News.

The description on the fundraising page says: “Allies of the Trans and Non Binary Community time to come together.”

The Supreme Court’s decision permits the exclusion of transgender women holding a gender recognition certificate (GRC) from single-sex spaces, if deemed “proportionate”, reports Breaking News.

Thousands of supporters for trans rights demonstrated in central London on Saturday, with groups like Trans Kids Deserve Better, Pride in Labour, the Front for the Liberation of Intersex Non-binary and Transgender people (Flint), and TransActual joining the protest.

A separate rally and march organized by Resisting Transphobia is also happening in Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon, reports Breaking News.
