Police in Switzerland have launched an investigation after a seven-year-old boy was stabbed to death as he walked home from school, on Thursday.
In a case that has sent shockwaves across the country, it is believed that the little boy was allegedly stabbed by a 75-year-old woman as he walked home from school in the St Galler-Ring area of Basel.
Although the motive for the attack has yet to be revealed, police say the woman handed herself into police after the boy died in hospital.
It is believed the boy was found lying on the side of the road with serious injuries, by one of his teachers who was also making their way home.
Police say the boy was immediately rushed to hospital following the incident, but sadly he died a short time later.
They also say they are currently questioning the elderly woman who handed herself in, but they have yet to determine a connection between the young boy and the woman.
